Making Long-Distance Relationships Work During the Holidays

It's that time of the year again, and Christmas is already in the air. With all the commercialization of the holiday season here and there, most people already forget the real essence of the season: love.

Although we expect presents and celebrations with the friends and family, Christmas is actually more than the gifts under the tree. It's the main season to show love and care to those people who are important to us. However, it gets more difficult when they are far from you. Just like me, who is in a long-distance relationship. Here are the things we do as a thousand-miles-away couple who still manage to keep the spark alive and the holiday season jolly.

1. Send Christmas cards

Yes, we are corny. But how else can you show your significant other that you are thinking about her? Write a corny love letter to her this Christmas!

2. Send Christmas care package

Be it her favorite snacks, a new pair of couple pajamas or socks to wear on your Skype date, send your love in a box to reduce the distance.

3. Send her chocolates and flowers

Bring out the romantic guy in you. Don't forget the usuals: chocolates and a bouquet of flowers. My girlfriend really likes them, so I send her these gifts not only during Christmas but also during random ordinary days.

4. Have a Skype date

Conquer the distance by setting up a time together during Christmas even if there's a screen that divides the two of you. Of course, it would be different, but at least you are showing an effort, and that's already something! Before you can take her to a wedding chapel, make sure you sweep her off her feet!

5. Visit her, if possible

You are the greatest gift you can give to her. So if possible, fly to wherever she is and surprise her! Who knows, this might also be the perfect time to ask her hand for marriage, and you can decide which wedding chapel you guys are gonna get married at!
